In the Fall of 1999, during the “red hot” giant bluefin tuna bite east of Chatham, three local fisherman came up with the idea of forming an angler’s club in Hyannis similar to the ones in Nantucket and Osterville. A fourth fisherman was consulted and the incorporation plans for the club were put into motion.
Initially, 50 people were signed up with an initiation fee of $1000 and this group became known as the Gold Hook members. On January 1, 2000, the club was incorporated. Soon after, officers were elected and a clubhouse was established over Trader Ed’s bar at Hyannis Marina.
In 2004, the Hyannis Angler’s Club purchased the building that used to be Steamer’s Bar on Ocean Street in Hyannis. Rennovations were made to the bar and restaurant and membership was expanded.
Today the Hyannis Angler’s Club has a membership in excess of 400 members. The club runs a full schedule of fishing tournaments as well as many fun social activities for its’ members.
